What is stem cell fat grafting?

Fat grafting (fat transfer) moves fat from an area where you have a little extra to an area of the face that has lost volume. It is a natural option because it uses your own tissue, and fat that survives the transfer can provide long-lasting volume. A known limitation is that part of the transferred fat is reabsorbed by the body, which is why a touch-up is sometimes needed.

What are the results and recovery like?

Swelling and bruising in the face and at the harvest site are expected and usually ease over about one to two weeks; the treated area often looks fuller at first while swelling settles. The final result becomes clearer over one to three months, once the transferred fat has settled and some has been naturally reabsorbed. Fat that survives can last for years, though normal ageing continues. A touch-up session is sometimes recommended after several months. Results vary with your anatomy, the area treated and how your body responds.

How the treatment works

1. Consultation & design

   The doctor analyses your facial volume, marks the areas to fill, and explains the harvest site, anaesthesia and how the procedure is arranged.

2. Anaesthesia & harvest

   After local anaesthesia or sedation, a small amount of fat is gently removed with a fine cannula, usually from the thigh or abdomen.

3. Enrichment & grafting

   The fat is purified and combined with stem cell-rich fluid, then injected in small amounts into the planned areas.

4. Aftercare

   Expect swelling and bruising for about one to two weeks. Avoid pressure on the face, saunas, alcohol and strenuous exercise as advised.
