What is Xeomin?
Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA) is a botulinum toxin type A product used to smooth dynamic wrinkles, the lines that form when you frown, raise your eyebrows or smile. Tiny amounts are injected into specific facial muscles, which temporarily reduces their movement so the skin above them creases less. The treatment is non-surgical and the effect gradually wears off as nerve signalling returns.
Xeomin is made with a purification process that removes the complexing proteins found in some other toxins, which is why it is sometimes described as a "naked" toxin. Some doctors consider it for people who want a low-protein option or have had reduced responses before, although results are broadly similar between brands. What are the results and recovery like?
Small bumps or redness at the injection points usually fade within an hour or so, and you can return to normal activities straight away. The muscles begin to relax after about three to five days, and the full effect is usually seen at around two weeks. Results typically last three to four months, varying with the area, dose, muscle strength and metabolism. Minor bruising or a mild headache can occur and usually settles quickly; uncommon side effects such as an uneven or heavy brow are reviewed at follow-up.
