Quick answer

Radiesse is an injectable filler made of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres in a gel; it gives immediate volume and then stimulates the skin to produce new collagen. At Egg Clinic in Sinsa, Gangnam, a doctor uses it for areas such as the jawline, cheeks, temples and hands; results are visible straight away and typically last around 12–18 months.

What is Radiesse?

Radiesse is a filler based on calcium hydroxylapatite, a mineral-like compound similar to substances found in bone. The tiny microspheres sit in a smooth gel that gives instant lift and volume. Over the following weeks the gel is absorbed while the microspheres act as a scaffold that encourages your body to build new collagen, so the result becomes more natural-looking and the skin firmer.

Because it is thicker than most hyaluronic acid fillers, Radiesse is mainly used for structural areas such as the jawline and chin, cheekbones, temples and the backs of the hands. Diluted, it can also be used as a skin-firming treatment. It is not used in the lips or directly under the eyes, where softer HA fillers are preferred.

Is it for you?

Who is a good candidate for Radiesse?

  • People wanting more jawline or chin definition
  • Volume loss in the cheeks or temples
  • Mild skin laxity that would benefit from collagen stimulation
  • Thin, ageing skin on the backs of the hands
  • Anyone wanting longer-lasting results than many HA fillers

Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, Radiesse cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase, so it suits people who are confident about the change; first-timers may prefer an HA filler. It should be avoided during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with active skin infection, or with some autoimmune or bleeding conditions. The doctor reviews your history and recommends the right product at consultation.

How is Radiesse different from hyaluronic acid fillers?

Hyaluronic acid fillers such as Juvederm mainly work by adding hydrated volume and are reversible, which makes them versatile for delicate areas. Radiesse adds firmer structure and stimulates collagen, so it is often chosen for contouring and skin firmness, and it tends to last longer. The trade-off is that it cannot be dissolved. Many treatment plans use both, with each product placed where it suits the area.

Step by step

How the treatment works

  1. Consultation

The doctor assesses your facial structure and skin quality and decides whether Radiesse or an HA filler suits each area.

  2. Comfort

Numbing cream is applied and lidocaine is mixed into the product to keep the injections comfortable.

  3. Injection

Radiesse is placed deep along the jawline, cheeks or other areas with a cannula or fine needle and gently moulded.

  4. Aftercare

Mild swelling, tenderness or bruising usually settles within a few days. Avoid saunas, alcohol and strenuous exercise for about 24–48 hours.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How long does Radiesse last?

Results typically last around 12–18 months, and the collagen it stimulates can help the effect last longer in some people.

Does Radiesse hurt?

Numbing cream and added lidocaine keep most people comfortable. Mild tenderness for a few days is normal.

Can Radiesse be dissolved?

No. Unlike hyaluronic acid filler, Radiesse cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase, so the doctor plans the amount carefully.

Where can Radiesse be used?

It is mainly used for the jawline, chin, cheeks, temples and backs of the hands. It is not used in the lips or directly under the eyes.

Is Radiesse better than hyaluronic acid filler?

Neither is better overall. Radiesse suits structure and collagen stimulation, while HA fillers are softer and reversible; the doctor recommends the right one for each area.
