Quick answer

Foot Botox treats plantar hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating of the feet, by injecting botulinum toxin into the skin of the soles to block the nerve signals that switch on sweat glands. At Egg Clinic in Sinsa, Gangnam, a doctor plans the dose and comfort measures for you; sweating usually reduces within one to two weeks, and the effect typically lasts several months.

The treatment

What is foot Botox?

Plantar hyperhidrosis means the feet sweat far more than needed to keep the body cool, often regardless of temperature. It can cause slippery shoes, odour, damp socks, skin problems and embarrassment. Botulinum toxin blocks the chemical signal that nerves send to sweat glands, so when it is injected into the skin of the soles, sweating in that area is greatly reduced for a period of time.

The doctor places many small injections in a grid across the soles. Because the soles are a sensitive area, numbing cream, ice or other comfort measures are used. Foot Botox is part of our hyperhidrosis Botox treatments, alongside underarm Botox, which is often treated in the same visit.

Who is a good candidate for foot Botox?

  • Feet that sweat heavily most days
  • Sweating that soaks socks or makes shoes slippery
  • Foot odour or skin problems linked to sweating
  • People for whom antiperspirants have not helped enough

Foot Botox should be avoided during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with certain neuromuscular conditions, an infection or open wound on the feet, or a known allergy to botulinum toxin. Sudden new sweating, or sweating all over the body, can have other medical causes and should be checked first. The doctor will review your history before treatment.
