What is Fraxel laser?
Fraxel is widely used as a name for fractional laser resurfacing. Instead of treating the whole skin surface, the laser creates thousands of microscopic treatment columns and leaves healthy skin in between, which speeds up healing. As the columns heal, the skin produces new collagen and replaces damaged tissue, so texture, scars and pores gradually improve.

Erbium lasers are absorbed strongly by water in the skin, so they remove tissue precisely with relatively little heat spread. What is recovery like after Fraxel?
After treatment the skin looks red and feels warm, like a sunburn. Over the next few days it may feel tight and dry and show fine dark dots or flaking as the treatment columns heal; this usually settles within about three to seven days, depending on the depth used. Make-up can usually be applied once the surface has healed. Collagen remodelling continues for weeks, so results build over a course of sessions about four weeks apart. Strict sun protection reduces the risk of pigmentation.
